buy kopi Luwak Coffee

Kopi Luwak Price: Economic Value for Indonesian?

Kusnadi is definitely not an Indonesian coffee farmer living in colonial era. He is one of the coffee farmers from Bengkulu, Southern Sumatera - Indonesia produces 20-50 kgs Kopi Liuwak Coffee each month from his own plantation. Kopi Luwak price is off course different in each part of Indonesia, but if you buy directly from a farmer like Kusnadi it would cost you about US$ 15/kg and thats only for a dry bulk of unroasted Kopi Luwak Coffee beans.

And for a ready to blend is about US$ 30/kg - US$ 40/kg, within International market the price of coffee luwak nowdays (Dec 2010) is about US$ 500/kg to US$ 800/kg, as for Germany the price is US$ 900/kg.

So, you can see how much the margin that a trader or supplier can get from a single kg of coffee luwak, and how little an Indonesian Farmer can get from a kg.

Despite all of that, the coffee has become one of Indonesian natural resources that is well excepted by International Coffee enthusiasts, and I can only hope George Clooney and Kusnadi can have a cup of coffee luwak together someday.

Islamic body says it may forbid followers from drinking the world’s most expensive coffee

Kopi Luwak is made from hard beans that have been eaten by the nocturnal critters and then fermented in their stomachs before being pooped out and roasted.

It’s highly prized for its smooth flavor and bitterless aftertaste, sometimes fetching well over $200 a pound ($440 per kilogram) online.

Maruf Amien, acting head of the powerful Ulema Council, said a ruling on whether Muslims should be banned from drinking the brew could be made as early as Tuesday.

He said the key issue is whether or not the coffee is clean.

order kopi luwak:Bantai Civet Coffee Organic Kopi Luwak

the luwak civet is so cute
bantai kopi luwak comes in a gift bag

This environmentally and ethically sound coffee comes from the Julia Campbell Agro-Forest Memorial Park in the Philippines. The park shelters the rare Philippines civet and is also home to the native people who live in communion with the civets and their forest. The Robusta trees grow in shade at an unusually high altitude, a unique growing method for Robusta that produces extremely smooth and luxurious coffee with hints of almond, spice and fruit.

Purchase of this coffee supports the maintenance and expansion of the park, as well as protection for the endangered civets and the preservation of the indigenous tribal community of Asiputo. It's also an opportunity to try Robusta like you're never had it before!

Of course, the Luwak process is always an organic process, and many forest-gathered Kopi Luwak varieties may be organic as well; however, since the civets are wild, their diet usually cannot be certain. Bantai civet coffee can state confidently that they are organic because their civets live in an organic preserve and no non-organic coffee grows within their range.

Each bag of Bantai Civet Coffee comes with a free gift bag, as pictured, and a laminated information sheet describing the coffee and its origins.

Kopi Luwak is expensive coffee at $75 for 100 grams

Kopi Luwak is expensive coffee at $75 for 100 grams, is not something that people would spent on coffee. And at less than 250 kg of production annually, even with money you might not be able to get these expensive coffee beans.

Where to buy these animal coffee? Amazon has this great offer, where 100 grams is less than $25!. Check the offer if you want an unique coffee experience.Kopi is Malay for coffee and Luwak means the place where the coffee comes from around the island of Java and Sulawesi. And for those that are not in the know, it actually comes from the dropping of a small marsupial known as the paradoxurus, that is the reason it is also known as civet cat coffee.

Yes, Asians are pretty amazing folks with Chinese paying thousands for bird's vomit call "bird nest" and now hundreds to buy coffee cat digested coffee.

These coffee bean cat climb the tress and eat only the ripest, reddest coffee cherries and when they excrete, it would be your kopi luwak. Somehow, the enzymes in the cat add some additional flavor to the coffee through fermentation.

The harvesting is simple but time consuming. The natives look in the jungle for these luwak coffee beans, that are the coffee cherries wrapped in layers of the cherries mucilage.

When you brew the civet coffee, you would get a heavy body with a slight caramel taste. The aroma is musty and smell like jungle. But, how do you brew such a coffee?
kopi-luwak Before that, while there are growing number of followers for kopi luwak, I must add that what the civet cats eat in Indonesia is still Robusta coffee cherries.
So, unlike Blue Mountain or Kona where the geographical location affects their taste, these Indonesian coffee taste is primarily altered due to passing through the civet cats' stomach.

Now, to brew coffee cat digested beans you need to be easy on the extraction and the roast. These beans because they are cover with some elements, are easy to burn, so a light roast would do.

And as the taste is pretty heavy, doing a coarse ground and using a French press or drip filter would extract the flavor that would do justice to the kopi luwak.

Brewing this civet coffee is definitely easy, but trying to buy civet cat coffee is not that easy and definitely not that cheap (it is not called the most expensive coffee bean for nothing). However, do try one and see if with all these buzz, is the beans worth the price...
